1 month into the supervised diet, down 6 pounds!

May 23, 2014

Super excited. Had my one month check in yesterday and I'm down six pounds! Despite being out of the country last week and having no idea how many calories I was eating. I just tried to focus on protein and eating smaller portions than I usually would. This makes me feel better, that it IS possible to lose weight, that whatever the depo did to my body is most likely fixed by now.

I also had the behavioral evaluation, passed that with flying colors. I realized how blessed I was to have such a supportive family. I had a very happy childhood and other than my divorce which precipitated my huge weight gain, my life in general has been good. And, with DH, amazing. I'm feeling more confident that I CAN DO THIS.

What if it doesn't work?

May 07, 2014

This is my first blog post about the bariatric surgery that DH and I hope to have before the end of the year. I haven't written about it yet on my regular blog because I'm not quite ready. As a food blogger I feel like this is giving up. But I know that this just a tool, it's not the easy way out. I have been spending lots of time reading books and forums so I have a pretty good idea what to expect.

My biggest fear about getting sleeved is, What if it doesn't work? In my head I know that is silly. Of COURSE I will lose weight. But part of me wonders, what if? I have been skinny most of my life, until about 8 years ago when I went on depo provera and started going out to eat with my now husband. In less than a year I gained 100 pounds and nothing I did made any bit of difference. I worked with a nutritionist and she blamed it on the depo. I put the scale away, counted calories, ate clean, exercised, but it made no difference. I sort of gave up. Over the past few years I have gained and lost about 30 pounds a few times, always very slow. I feel like this is my last chance and I'm going to do everything possible to make this a success.

I would love to hear from anyone who had similar fears, and how they overcame them.
