RNY Four days out

May 26, 2014

I am four days out. One of my incisions is leaking clear stuff with blood mixed in it. I tried to cover it with a gauze pad but it just leaked right through and back on to another outfit. I am not stressing about it. I know that things are going to happen. It isn't discolored (like yellow or brown) and the discharge does not smell at all. I guess I am fine. The area is white around that incision and it is swollen more than the other incisions.

My throat is sore from the tube they had down my throat and every once in a while I get some unexpected phlegm coughing up. Again, I have not worried too much about it.

I am walking often out on my patio and drinking as much as I can without becoming uncomfortable.

I have been taking my temperature periodically since I got home just so I can nip anything in the bud. No fevers.

Three pounds of the surgery gain has come off already. I am not worried about that at all.

No BM yet. I started taking the Colace yesterday.

As always, I am tracking every single thing in MyFitnessPal, including my walking, although I am not going very far yet. When I walk too much I get a feeling like a side stitch where that leaky incision is.

I guess you could say I am carefree and oblivious at this point. I am just so glad to be on the "loser's bench." I know that in a week everything will be different.

My friends have been super supportive since I wrote a nice detailed blog yesterday on Facebook. I wanted to detail every step of my journey to railroad as many negative comments as I could. Thankfully, so far, I have not received one negative response. I was really surprised on one hand but on the other hand, I know I have terrific friends. The friends I have met on OH are most awesome, of course!

So, all-in-all how do you think I am doing?

The Loser's Bench

May 24, 2014

Friday, May 23, 2014, I went into the hospital at 5:30 a.m. for RNY. I was discharged Saturday, May 24, 2014 at 4:00 p.m. I am now on "the loser's bench." I came home weighing 7.6 lbs more than when I went in but I will chalk that up to the gasses and being swollen. I am very tired and my tummy hurts like it is just sore. Today I plan on doing a lot of walking in my neighborhood. I am moving very slow but at least I am moving. Life is good!

RNY Tomorrow Morning Yayyyyyyyyyyyyyyy

May 22, 2014

I am so excited. Tomorrow morning at 7:30 will be the moment I have been waiting for. My journey began Aug 15, 2013. According to my cell phone app, it was a 281 day journey from beginning to end. As of this morning (131 days since I began to eat as the dietician directed me to) I am down 53 pounds. Amazing!

I am beyond thrilled. I am not one bit afraid. I will probably run to the operating room if they ask me to walk in. lol

The 8-day liquid diet was not difficult at all. I went to restaurants and drank juice and water. I watched as my family had pizza and hoagies. I even baked a chocolate cake for everyone. I just kept my eye on the prize and nothing bothered me. I want this surgery and new life so d*** bad that I don't want to mess it up.

I have also had great support from my closest friends, including new fantabulous OH friends, and my close family. That helped so much more than you will ever know. I am not yelling from the rooftops yet on Facebook. I am still undecided about telling the world, but I did tell a select few. I even made a list of who knows so far. lol

This day can't go fast enough for me. My bags are packed and I am ready to roll! Woooooooooooooooooooo

Crunching the numbers

May 05, 2014

According to my surgeon, in order to be considered a successful Roux-en-y patient, one must lose 70% of his or her excess weight. Since I have not yet had surgery, I am going to use my highest weight so I may get a ballpark figure. This may also help others to figure out how this figure is concluded.

Find the excess weight by subtracting ideal from current:

383 (My highest weight) - 109 (goal weight) = 274
Now, take 70% of that:
274 x 0.7 = 191.8
So I would be successful if I lost 191.8 lbs.
383-191.8 = 191.2
Ultimately, I would need to get down to 191.2 lbs.

May 14, 2014 Last appt (the day before beginning the liquid diet) I weighed in at 342.6) with surgeon I have lost 40.4 lbs from my highest weight of 383.

May 23, 2014 Final weigh before surgery: 330 lbs (Total loss of 53 lbs before surgery)

330 (My current weight) – 109 (My goal weight) = 221

Now, take 70% of that: 221 x 0.7 = 154.7

So, I would be successful if I lost 154.7 pounds after Roux-en-Y gastric bypass

344 - 154.7 = 189.3

Ultimately, I would need to get down to 189.3 pounds to be considered a Roux-en-y success, according to my surgeon.
