I was just wondering..

I ws just wondering what the average wait length was for approval for WLS? I had my first consultation with my surgeon on 10-3-01 and on 10-5-01 I was called and told that I had been approved, so more or less a day. I think we are the except to the rule when waiting for approval from the insurance company. I was practically approved over the phone when I called the medical management team to give the information. The office manager called me within 24 hours to schedule my surgery date. I wanted this so bad and was so excited but it scared the H--- out of me to hear yes, you can have the surgery. I have no regrets at 11.5 and 180lbs lighter

My wait was not with the insurace company (3-4 days) it was with the doctor getting the paperwork to the right place and in the right order before it was even sent to the insurace company (3-4 months)

Hi Heather! After my paperwork was submitted by my doc, it took the insurance company one day to approve, to say the least, I was shocked! I guess quick or slow approval depends on the insurance company, and what conditions exist in the patients medical history.

I was pleasently surprised have my approval back in 2days.I really believe it all depends on what insurance you have. Mine is Blue Cross Plus (ppo), and they have been great. Good luck on your journey.
