How can I find out if a particular doctor is a board certified bariatric surgeon?

Be careful when reading the wording. There is a big difference between "Board Certified in" a particular field like laparoscopic gastric bypass surgery and Board Certified in surgery. ALSO "Board Eligible" and other similar wording is not certification.
