Question:
Does the vitamins make any of the post-ops hungry? Does anyone vitamins before bed?

I am 4 months post-op and yesterday I noticed that I forgot to take my vitamins. I noticed all day that I did not get hungry like I usually do. Lately I noticed that it seems that I get hungry too soon after a meal. I don't like feeling like this because it means that I will start back old habits. Well, anyways, I thought about taking my multivitamins at night before bed but I don't want them to interfere with my sleep. Does any of the post-ops take their vitamins before bedtime? If so, do they interfere with your sleep? Do you prefer taking them at night? Am I the only one who the vitamins give hunger spells to? I think that instead of taking them with my breakfast it probably would benefit me to take them at dinner, especially since they seem to make me feel hungry quick. What do you guys think? Any suggestions or recommendations? Thanks for helping...........Shirley    — Shirley M. (posted on July 26, 2002)

Shirley, I have never noticed hunger after taking vitamins. I am 6 months post-op, still take Flintstones chewable, 2 of them, and right before I go to bed. No, it has never affected my sleep. For the first few months, I used to take them in the am as i was walking out the door for work. If you think taking the vitamins during the day contributes to your hunger, then try taking them before you go to bed and see what happens.

Shirley, vitamins always seem to make me "hungry"-always have. When my little skinny mother was a child, Grandma put her on vitamins because she was so small. She gained like crazy, and became quite chubby. (That has since changed). My father-in-law has also been known to gain on vitamins too. I have found out myself that by taking them at bedtime, I substantially decrease this side effect. Good Luck, and happy losing.

YES, YES, YES!!! I swear that the vitamins make me hungry. I thought that they were keeping me up at night too, but I seem to wake up at night despite when I take the vitamins. I do not know why this happens, and I would love to have a reason for it. I do take my calcium at night, it has magnesium in it, and that seems to help with the waking in the middle of the night. Becasue I take my calcium at night, I can not take my vitamins. If you ever figure out why we get hungry, let me know....

I take mine at night about an hour before I go to bed and haven't had any problems.
