Question:
Anyone been approved with an exclusion in their policy regarding treatment of obesity

Has anyone been approved for surgery that had an exclusion in their insurance policy that stated that they would not cover any treatment for obesity or weight loss. This is what my policy states and the insurance company will not even accept my pre-cert info because of the exclusion. By the way, I'm not obese...I'm morbidly obese...does this help any???    — LISA O. (posted on September 8, 2002)

O.K. this is a cop-out answer but I don't know a lot about insurance because I'm self-pay but I read on an earlier post where there are some examples of appeal letters so I thought I would let you know about that. It is question number 17 on today's post. Hope that helps. Even if you have an exclusion I would still try to appeal, because if you stress how medically necessary it is you may still have some sort of chance! Good luck
