Question:
I was wondering if anyone had a written exclusion on their policy but got approved

with their companies insurance broker? I have gone through all of the pre-op testing and when I submitted my paperwork to United Healthcare Choice Plus and I was denied. My exclusion reads, "Surgical and non-surgical treatment of obesity (including morbid obesity)". My company has an insurance broker that is "working" on the case but it has been 6 weeks and he hasn't gotten back to me and his secretary is a real witch! Should I pursue this with the broker or fight to get the exclusion taken off our policy with my employer? I have also heard that if I can prove economically that it would be better for them to cover it, they will. I have 2 friends that in the past 6 months were covered and have had their surgeries even though they had written exclusions on their policies. My BMI is higher than theirs and I have more comorbidities. Any advice would be GREATLY appreciated! Thank you all!    — SMG I. (posted on October 4, 2002)
