Question:
My primary insurance doesn't cover WLS. Will my huband's BCBC cover?

My primary insurance, SmartPlan, does not cover any type of WLS. My husbanc has BCBS. Will this plan pick up the cost since mine doesn't. Anyone been through this?    — choudoun (posted on January 8, 2003)

It depends on your plan. I have BCBS of Illinois and it was covered, but I know that BCBS of Oregon does not cover it. Check with the administrater of your husband's insurance. Good Luck :)

I have BCBS PPO - MICHIGAN and as long as it is Medically Necessary - meaning you meet all the requirements and the policy does not have a EXCLUSION (way for the company to keep premiums lower) you should have no problem. Good Luck

Go ahead and have your surgeon's office submit a PD to BC/BS. If they approve the PD they will pick up the cost like they were primary once your primary insurance denies the charge.
