Question:
Stomach muscles SO achy at six weeks post op. Normal?

I am six 1/2 weeks post op. The past few days my stomach muscles have been hurting very badly, like I did a thousand sit-ups. It hurts mainly radiating from the incision site, and it hurts to even touch my stomach. I don't have any bulges or hard spots, so I don't think it's a hernia. And I'm not running a fever or anything. I'm calling my surgeon tomorrow, but do you think this is normal healing? Everything else is going fine, except I have a lot of air in my stomach that might be contributing. I just want to see if anyone else has experienced this same muscle soreness this far out.    — Angie K. (posted on February 23, 2003)

Hi Angie! My doc told me, because I did have the same problem, that it is scar tissue. Where your incision is, is it really hard to the touch? Does it feel like there is a rock inside? No need to worry, it's just healing. That is what happens from moving around, tossing and turning in bed, etc. It gets better with time. Good Luck to you.

Considering the fact that you were cut from 'stem to stern' expect your abs to be sore and tender for a while yet. The incision was deep and it does take some time for it to fully heal. If it becomes hot to the touch or more tender or you experience shooting pains, etc, then phone your physician.
