Question:
Will a previous case of peritonitis keep me from having WLS?

I had severe peritonitis and septic shock 3.5 years ago due to a misdiagnosed abscess in my intestines. I recovered fully, sporting a horrid gash-type scar about 12 inches wide across my tummy above my navel, and about 2 inches deep at the deepest point. I have a BMI of 50.3 and mild co-morbidities at the age of 43. I am so afraid that the peritonitis is going to rule me out of having the surgery!    — Jolinda C. (posted on February 27, 2003)
