Question:
Surgeon requiring medical history...

My surgeon is requiring a 2-year medical history as part of the package to send to the insurance for approval. Due to either not being employed and not having any insurance or being employed at a company that didn't offer insurance, there was a period of about 6 years I didn't even go to the doctor. I didn't get insurance until May of 2003 and have been regularly seeing a doctor since. Obviously, this isn't the 2-year requirement. Has anyone had a similiar situation and how did you gracefully explain it to the surgeon or the insurance company? Thanks for any help.    — Shayna T. (posted on January 23, 2004)

Not only does the doctor require the two years of medical history, but most insurances do as well. They use this history when apply to your insurrance for approval. When there is lack of medical history, doctors will also require that you have a psychological examine.

Hi... I had that same problem. I work in home healthcare, where decent insurance is scarce...can you believe it. Other than the primary I have now, which I had since last spring, my last primary was my pediatrician ( I am 33). My insurance company supposedly required a 5 year MD documented history of obesity. The few times I had went to the MD was for sprains, strains and sinus infections. Do you think they mentioned my weight at any of these visits? No...of course not. Finally I just told the surgeons office to try submitting without it and see what happens. Surprisingly..it was approved.
