Question:
Can someone point me in the right direction?

I need am looking for a numbered list of items that I should start getting pre and post op. I am trying to find articles and books but I am not having any luck. Also can someone tell me where to find Pouch rules for dummies, I cannot find it on the web or at my local book stores. Thanks — davesband1 (posted on May 25, 2004)

If you do a google search of pouch rules or pouch rules for dummies it will pop up on the web. Pouch rules is just a printed couple of sheets that gives the rules for maintaining a healthy pouch, it is not a book like the other "dummie books" As far as books, there are books available right on this site in the store. Look up top on the links that are available, right below "join" is the store. There are a few books, nine to be exact that are available. Maybe there are some other members that have some usful links for you. I have a bunch of WLS links bookmarked on my old pc but I have not transferred over the data yet and I have that computer disconnected temporarily. Good Luck.

I have something on my site called "Pre-Op Central".... hope it helps!

http://www.rnylacrosse.com/preop-central1.html

Please bear in mind that I did this specifically for my surgeon's patients, but most of it is pretty general.

Good luck!

Adrian...My surgeon wrote 2 pamphlets for his patients, one covering pre-op issues (things needed for insurance approval, testing, etc) and one for post-op issues (things to expect, things to eat during each phase of the post op diet, etc) In this booklet, he outlined things to have on hand when you come home from the hospital to be ready to go. These include...GROCERY STORE ITEMS: low sodium broth, sugar free jello, sugar free popsicles, artificial sweetener (splenda, nutrasweet, or sweet-n-low), decaf coffee and/or tea, gatorade, 100% juice (NOT orange, grapefruit, tomato, or pineapple) and you MUST read the labels of these fruit juices to be sure they have no added sugar. FROM THE DEPARTMENT STORE: blender, measuring cups, measuring spoons, diet scale to weigh portions of food, timer, journal (to write down feelings, food intake, activity, etc), breath strips (no more gum for awhile and then only sugar free gum). Hope this helps you. I'm 20 weeks post op and have lost 74.5 pounds.
