Question:
What is the average weight loss with a lap band

I have finally decided to have WLS but am unsure of which one. I am considering the Lab Band or the Lap RNY but keep hearing negative things about the Lab Band like it is easy to cheat and that most people only lose about 50% of their excess weight. I have 100lbs to lose and do not want to lose only 50 after having surgery. Any views would be very helpful.    — Shelly B. (posted on June 23, 2004)

Hi. I have had the NONadjustable band. This is different from the LapBand which is an adjustable band where they leave a tube and a resivior under your skin. I, personally, didn't like the idea of the extra stuff hanging around inside my body and I also didn't think it would be a good idea for me to know that if I was feeling sorry for myself I could have the band loosened. I had the nonadjustable band in 1992 and I lost 110 pounds in 9 months. I was talked into removing the band in 1998. I had the band placed back on my stomach last December. I have lost 54 pounds to date. This time around I am having to work harder for it (exercise).. I believe this is because I am now 12 years older. Let me know if you would like to know more about the band. Paula

I was banded 07/01/03 and have lost 64% of my excess wt (96 0f 150 lbs) and am still losing. I have lost this with very little exercise or extra effort on my part. Just think if I had put forth a little more effort I would probably be at goal! Lisa F
