Question:
fish oil or cod liver oil??? for tendonitis

Hi! I was just recently diagnosed with tendonitis but since I cannot take any anti-inflammatory medications there is nothing to do. I was told that fish oil can help but I am not sure which to use. I read the bottle for the fish oil but it states nothing about helping bone/joints but the cod liver oil does. Any suggestions on which to use. Thanks - Tracy    — tracyr (posted on April 2, 2005)

Is it because you had WLS that you can't take anti-inflammatory drugs? Just wondering, because no one ever told me I couldn't take them. If this is true, then I've learned something new. I get cortisone shots for carpal tunnel syndrome.

My WLS Dr does not allow us to take anti-inflamitory meds either, they can hurt the pouch. I've been suffering with adhesive capsulitous ( aka frozen shoulder) for 8 months. I have been going to physical therapy and taking pain meds. I've gotten 3 cortizone shots for it. It's working, but because of no anti-inflam. it's working slowly. I've never heard anything about the oils. It'd be interesting to know if they really work. Good luck to you.

I've heard the benefits of fish oils, however if you have had a WLS with a bypass of intestines, I'm not sure how much of the oils you will absorb.

Coromega is a fish oil we can take and it is delicious -- no fish burp. I get mine at www.vitaminworld.com, about $27 for three month supply. I have no connection with them except as a satisfied customer. I also get my liquid calcium/magnesium/vit D from them as well as my sublingual B-12. Nina in Maine

I think I may have seen your question on the message board before. I'm going to suggest cortisone shots. They are given in the area affected by the tendinitis, not given orally, so they are 100% safe for post-ops. If your PCP won't do it for you, go to an orthopedic specialist.

Another natural remedy for tendenitis and other joint problems is Glutamine with MSM. It is often suggested by rhemuatologists. You can get the IDS product from www.myrnyexperience.com for $22. Hope that helps.
