Question:
What should a typical days meal plan be for someone who is 5 months or more post-op?

Hi. Anybody have time to give me advice? I had an open RNY on 11/15/00 and I'm at 5 months post-op and at a plateau for the last month, so I think I must not be eating right. Also, I know I'm also too busy sometimes to figure out what I should be eating and could use some tips. Can y'all who are at 5 months or past that point fill me in on what a typical day's diet is like for you. I don't have trouble eating any foods. Maybe I can take your plan and do better. Thanks again for your support! Stephanie    — FoxyLibrarian (posted on April 16, 2000)

I sure wouldn't suggest that my way of eating is the best way to go, but it seems to work okay for me. My average food per day includes: 2 poached eggs w/one slice of fat free cheese (total about 20g protein); one Carnation instant breakfast (sugar free) mixed with 1% milk and with 1/3 cup nonfat dry milk (around 18g protein); one Pure Protein Bar (33g protein,3g carbohydrates); maybe a bit of salad, a small amount of chicken or fish, and a handful of supplements. Also, I have lots of water and some herbal tea. Not a very exciting menu, but it satisfies me and that is the key. All my bloodwork came back fine, except iron (which I'm working on), so I must be doing something right. I'm 5.75 months post-op and have lost 85 pounds ... not phenominal, but a vast improvement! Hi! I am just over 6 months post op; and as you were earlier advised my way may not be the best way, but it works for me... For breakfast, I eat usually one or two eggs I cook them like I would fix an omlette with spicy cheese mixed in, other days I may only eat some yogurt with low sugar; sometimes I don't have time to eat Breakfast, I also take my vitamin, iron/B12 pill, and my Zinc pill; then around noon time, I will eat a small frozen entree---which about 1/2 to 3/4 of the small entree fills me up and I throw it away about two hours later... I eat my lunch pretty slowly... mind you I am also drinking lots and lots of water... just recently I have started to drink diet Rasberry tea (which is wonderful and if you put some real rasberries in it for an extra treat it's even better) sometimes I will get an urge for some more food so I will pop some popcorn and put some on a plate and then give the rest to others that I work with; I seldom eat crackers or stuff with High carbos... but on occassion I will; I usually eat something small for dinner---that is if I eat dinner... normally I just eat what would be considered a snack My day usually has about 10 to 30 grams of protien at every meal, and I eat as much or all of the protien first then I will eat other stuff... I like cheeses, chicken, pork, occassionally some beef (low fat) I also eat veggie burgers, on the weekends I will treat myself to one of those blended fruit drinks with some protien powder added... which I love... I try to avoid as much or all refined sugars that I can and then limit the natural sugars that I eat... I have so far lost 130lbs. I also work out four times a week at my local gym. I started at 400lbs on October 14, 1999---I am just over 3/4 of the way to my goal... I think I would like to get down to about 170lbs... another 70lbs to go... If you have any other questions or would just like to talk email me anytime!

I had a Lap proximal RNY 10/99 and have gone from 235lb to 153lbs. An average day's menu is: breakfast - 3oz canadian bacon, lunch - chicken lentil broccoli soup (home made heavy on the chicken), late afternoon snack - sunflower seeds with a little chopped dry fruit or turkey jerky, dinner - small ultra lean hamburger patty and spear of asparagus, dessert - 2 high moisture prunes and occasionally a sugar free popsicle. In between meals of course lots of water.
