Question:
I love oodles of noodles and it goes down really smoothly...Is it ok to eat this

11 days post-op...I dont think it would be a problem, because they are really soft, but I thought I would ask you guys, just to be on the safe side...My doctor's office is on vacation until April 17, that is why I did not ask them.. Thanks all Open RNY 3-30-01    — Ang B. (posted on April 10, 2001)

If I am not mistaken, I think they have a lot of fat. I am not sure though. I love them also but I do believe there is something about them that makes them something to be aware of when eating. I can't remember if it was the fat content or the carb content.

Angie, Check the label for carbs., fat, protein, sugar and calories. Also, I think the sodium is quite high. You need to choose foods that are high in protein and basically low in everything else. We all need to be label readers. Good luck.

Well, I love noodles, too --- but, I found that I went through a period where I ate quite a bit of them and then now I really don't eat them much anymore! LOL I was surprised to read that they have a pretty decent protein amount (I love this Korean brand, Shin and there's another Ichiban that's Japanese -- both have about 9-10 gms/pack. Not that one could eat an entire pack at one sitting, but if one did -- it would be 9-10 gms/protein). It comes from soy protein. I think most (if not all? I'd check the labels, though) Asian noodles are fortified with extra soy protein in the broth. So, check the label and you *may* be surprised. :) They do pack a lot of carbs, though --- the protein comes from the broth primarily. I think other protein options are MUCH better, especially immediately post-op (I wasn't eating these until about 1 1/2 months post-op and still ensuring that I got my daily requirement in of 80gms/day). I add fresh shitake mushrooms and baby bok choy - and top it with crushed peanuts. :) Of course, you could always add some meat into the mix (at a later date, I think --- I am not sure when RNY post-ops are allowed to have meats since I'm post-op BPD/DS). Another halfway decent option is cold noodles in peanut sauce -- Don't think they are LOADED with protein, but they are probably better than other types of noodles that don't have the peanut sauce? All the best, ([email protected]),
