Question:
pregnant and 2 1/2 years out...will i gain it all back?

I am 2 1/2 years post op and have found out that I am pregnant. I am petrified that I am going to gain all of the 120 pounds that I have lost back. If anyone has any advise, I am OPEN to any suggestions. I am wanting to eat everything in my face right now. I know this is in my head, but it's what I am feeling! I was 2 years out when I had my son. Getting pregnant was one of the main reasons that I had the surgery. I lost 123 pounds when I found out I was pregnant. I am 35 pounds right now from being at my lowest weight after my surgery. My son is 4 months old today. A lot of the weight that I haven't lost I feel is my fault because I don't feel like I have time to eat good - I just pick up whatever to satifisy my hunger. I have started back to the gym - so that's a plus.

I lost 157lbs found out 1yr after my surgery I was pregnant. I only gained 18lbs and I think I lost it all went I delivered her. I had to eat all the time to gain the weight I did. She is a healthy baby girl. Don't worry I found it hard to gain weight. I even lost some between doc appointments.

Ask your Dr. for a good nutrition plan to follow that will allow enough for the growing baby but not an excessive amount. A weight gain of 20-25 pounds is a healthy amount......keeping in mind that the fluid/placenta weight is almost equal to the weight of a full term baby. Eat as healthy as you are able! If you need quantity, make it healthy. Limit the salty and sugary to avoid the excess fluid retention, also. Good luck! Laura

I will be 3 years out from surgery on 11/1/05. I have a 3 1/2 month old daughter and in total since my surgery I lost 175 lbs. I've been pretty much at a standstill for the last year, and really would like to lose about 30lbs. more. When I found out I was pregnant with my daughter (had three miscarriages in the year prior to her...not related to WLS), I was concerned I would miscarry again, especially when I started spotting. Fortunately everything went fine. My OB/GYN did suggest I see a dietician when I found out I was pregnant, and we worked on a balanced eating plan that would allow me to gain approx. 20 lbs. in the pregnancy. As it turned out, I didn't gain any weight during the pregnancy (even though I did eat healthy...and a lot), and by the time I delivered I weighed about 15lbs less than I did at my starting weight. My daughter is happy and healthy...she was 6.5 lbs when born, and is now close to 15lbs. I did decide to breast feed so that I could hopefully lose some more weight, but I actually gained a couple of pounds, because I was hungrier while breastfeeding than while pregnant. Unfortunately I had to stop breastfeeding a couple of weeks ago due to some medication I had to start taking, but I have noticed that my appetite has diminished as well, as I started to wean her. Just remember to eat healthy foods, keep your protein and calcium up, and take your supplements. Your body will help you figure out how much you need to gain. I gained over 50lbs with my first pregnancy and delivered a 5lb. full term baby while I weighed close to 370lbs! I was waiting for the doctor to go in and get 10 more kids...lol! I must say that this pregancy and delivery were much, much better at this weight than my pregnancy prior to my surgery. Of course, I ate unhealthy food choices (lots of ice cream and sweets) then and really tried to limit myself this time around to one or two 'treats' a week. Knowing that on Friday I would get my ice cream cone, or on Tuesday I could have a brownie, really made it easier, and I didn't feel deprived. I did eat lots of cheese, beans, fish, whole grains, etc this time. Toward the end of the third trimester, I did experience more vomiting and stomach pain than normal, and saw a couple of doctors about it. Gallstones and ulcers were ruled out, and it was concluded that the baby was just pushing on an already tiny stomach, so it didn't leave much room for food to pass through. Also some of the pain was caused by the stretching of internal adhesions from my surgery (I had an open distal RNY). As soon as I delivered, it all went away, and I actually felt I could eat 'normal people' portions (much more at one time than I was able to before the pregnancy. That has adjusted back to normal now too. Sorry for rambling...just wanted to share my experience. Please write if you have any questions, and congratulations on your pregnancy!

I was almost two years out when I got pregnant with my son. I did not gain a single pound until I was nearly seven months. all together, I gained 18 pounds. okay, so I have not lost that 18 pounds (I walked out of the hospital weighing the same as I did when I went in!) but I have not gained anymore either. I am being told that when I stop nursing, weight loss can begin again. .. we will see :> oh, and I felt like I ate all the time too. even now, I am (on a good day) taking in about 1600 calories. hang in there & good luck!
