Question:
Anyone have pain and nausea after eating at 6 months out?

I have pain and nausea after I eat. Firat they thought I had an ulcer so they did an endoscopy. No Ulcer, then an ultrasound of the gall bladder, stones, removal. now I am a week out of gb surgery and the pain and nausea are worse. Whats Next?    — mthompson (posted on September 27, 2009)

Hi, Might it be what you are eating? I'm 14 months out and not able to handle meats..unless they are a very thinly sliced deli type. I get my protein from a drink and cottage cheese, ricotta, yogarts, lots of beans, peanut butter. I have a zero tolerance for sugar. Everything is sugar free for me. I use a Papaya Enzyme from Wal-marts after meals. What does your NUT say? You may want to check and see if there are other supports groups in your area. Best of luck.

Yes, I am 9 months post-op and if I eat too fast or take too large of bite I still have pain and nausea. I hope this will pass for you. Be patient, it might still be what you eat as well, just as the other poster stated. If the pain continues be sure to call your doctor! Good Luck!

Make sure you have the basics covered (for all the newbies reading this): do not drink with a meal (cut it off for 15 minutes prior to 30 min to an hour after). Eat solid protein first. Eat slowly, with bites the size of your little finger nail. Eat mindfully and stop before you are full. That said, your best bet is your surgeon and doc. I'm sorry you are going through more surgery. Could your pain be food or drug allergies? I saw recently where someone had trouble with some of the B vitamins. I hope you feel better soon.

Oh yes just take your time with drinking and the way you lie down.

You are probably not chewing your food good enough. It really needs to be mush before swallowing. The opening to your stomach is the width of your pinkie finger. Or the other reason is taking bites that are too big even after chewed. (Swallowing to much at once) Try taking baby bites and chew chew chew and you will not have problems anymore. Just remember, don't be in a hurry to swallow. This is how you will live now, so slow and easy is the best way to eat now. Best wishes.

Call your surgeon's office and let them know if the pain has not gotten any better. You should have gotten relief after GB surgery, not worse. They do expand your body cavity with gas if you had this surgery done laproscopically so you could be feeling gas pains. It is also a possibility you could have a gallstone stuck in the portion of the bile duct that is left behind when the gallbladder is removed. Typically they check but sometimes a tiny stone can be missed. Again, call your surgeon's office and let them know. I hope you are feeling better soon.
