Question:
OK, now how does the process go from the beginning until I get

into my room? I'm just trying to prepare myself so I'll know the *steps* and the way they will occur from the time I check into the hospital, until the time I come out of the Recovery Room and go to my temporary bedroom in the hospital. Anybody wanna share your experience?    — yourdivaness (posted on July 19, 2002)

Hi,Well its kinda hard to say,but it know when I first arrived they had all my papers from pre-admid and they put me into a temp room where I changed into that nice looking gown that they give you and the nurse came in and talked to me and ask how was i feeling. It was about 30 min later they started i.v. Need I remind you that my surgery was schd for 12:30pm.I arrived at 10:30.So at 12:00 my Doc came in and ask how was I feeling and he sad that someone would bring me down in a few min, well I didn't get down to the op-room it was around 1:30 and there I sat in this area where they can pull the curtains and everybody walks by with smiling faces speaking to you it was fun cause everyone seem so happy. At that point I was there in the holding spot for an hour thats the point where the antist-- come and talk to you.The nurse had already gave me something to relax when I was in my temp room so I was feeling pretty good.So the antist told me that she was gonna be my antis while I was in surgery and she will be there the hold intire time and that she will wake me up when it over and that I will be in still in the op-room and I said ok.After about 10 min she came and gave me a nice cocktail in my i.v. and told me that after she gives it to me she will be wheeling me down to the op-room but before I get there I will be sleep.Guess what I wasn't.All I remember is my DR. standing over me telling me to relax and I asked what time was it and they said 3:15, when I got to the recovery room I looked at the clock and it was 7:30 I stayed in there about an hour and went to my room it was after 8 when I got in there.I was in surgery for 3.5-4hrs.It just depends I know you've heard this a million an one times everybody is different.Good Luck and have a save and healthy surgery and recovery ~Bobbie

I reported to the surgery admit desk at 6AM. They assigned me a room, weighed me and had me change into a hospital gown. The nurse took my vitals and set up an IV. The anaesthesiologist came to see me and told me what would happen when I got to the operating room. I laid down on a gurney and was transported to the operating room where my surgeon introduced me to the people who would be assisting him with my surgery. I transferred myself to the surgery while they all went to scrub and get dressed for surgery. THe anaesthesiologist was the first to return and began to give me some sedation. I do not remember anything until I was in my room later. I have no memory of being in the recovery room at all. I was given every opportunity to ask questions and get information about what was going to happen. Hope you surgery goes well.
