Question:
Looking for a good pill crusher
Can anyone recommend a good pill crusher? The one the hospital gave me doesn't do a very good job with larger pills and it takes forever. I have sores on my hands from grinding away on some meds. Thanks. — gaily64 (posted on March 4, 2009)

I picked one up at Walgreens. It is a blue cylander and you put the pills
in and twist. Very easy. The good news is after a few months you can
swallow the pills just fine even though some doctors don't say to.

Hi Gail, I went on Ebay and bought a pestal and Morter made of marble. I
think I paid $19.00 for it and you can crush anything with ease. You can
also find them at flea markets.I would even bet you could find one at
Walmart.Hope this helps ,God Bless,2Lazy2Mike

I bought mine at GNC. I love it. It is white with red trim. It has a pill
spliter in it and also has a crusher that you just drop the pill in and
twist. It crushes them really good and easy. It also has an compartment on
the bottom of it to store some pills. It is small and I keep it in my
purse. It was only around 5 bucks.

I purchased a grinder and then a splitter. I got them both at CVS. My
grinder was just a clear bottom with a blue lid that you just twisted like
a top. I was harder to open child proof meds than to crush my pills. But
now 6 months out I just cut the larger ones in half and take the little
ones hole.

My neighbor picked one up for me at CVS. It is plastic but worked well!

I never had to crush my pills. Ask your doctor if you can swallow them
instead. Good luck.

I had a hard time finding a crusher at Walgreens, CVS or Walmart but I did
find one at GNC. It's the same as someone else described. It's White and
Red. It was 7 bucks with tax but like I said I hadn't found it anywhere
else. Maybe they were just really popular that month. lol

I got a great little plastic one at CVS - it was around $5. It has storage
in the cap so I can transport the pills with the crusher in my purse. The
top twists on and as it twists it crushes the pill....works great for my
calcium pills!

For those giant coated pills...It can be really hard, but I used a heavy
mortar and pestal...It helps if you can split the pill first into several
pieces...For smaller pills, I just put a split pill between two large soup
spoons and crushed with my thumbs! I always ask for chewable or liquid when
getting meds because it is such a pain to crush them...Or I chew
them...After RNY, I had the worst time learning to swallow anything tht was
not chewed to a liquid...Pills would hit the back of my throat and just not
go down! I still have some trouble 5 years later! I got really lazy and
chew everything...including tylenol...I open capsules and swallow the
powders or beads inside...yum...GAG!

I broke 2 pill crushers. So I put my in a baggy and smash them with a
little meat tenderizer hammer. Works great!
