Question:
pain in right side

I have pain in the right side under my rib cage, ultra sounds and other tests were negative for gall bladder problems. My Surgeon said he thinks I have a hidden hernia. Any one ever heard of this? Juanita.    — JANET T. (posted on December 30, 2003)

My mother-in-law has a hernia right below her rib cage that causes her a lot of pain. She has been putting off surgery and it has gotten a lot worse and is pushing up under the rib cage and through her entire abdomen. It sounds possible but I'm sure there are tests your doctor can do to locate the problem.

I had a pain behind the bottom right ribs in front for months. It came 3 hrs. after a meal and when I'd eat it'd go away for another 3 hrs. I had my gallbladder out and the pain came back. It ended up being a duodenal ulcer (in the bypassed part). It took several courses of trying different antibiotics to make it go away and it finally worked!
