Question:
has anyone had problems with thier port protruding from stomach causing pain?

I am 6 wks post op lap band with extensive hiatail hernia repair and am having bad stomach pains when I eat anything. The port is also "sticking out" causing me an "annoying" pain. The surgeon seems to think that I may already need a low profile port instead. Kinda upset that he didn't use better judgement when he placed it. Already lost 25 lbs. Do you think it is the hernia, port or what that is causing stabbing stomach pains? I tried to drink more fluids thinking I may be dehydrated but didn't really help. Any suggestions?    — pamela P. Pam I think your hernia is probably causing most of your pain.....unless you have lost alot of weight your port should not have to be replaced yet......are you planning to get your hernia repaired........why did they not repair your hernia when you were banded??? Good luck on your journey......if you want to try out another site that deals with mainly Lap band go to Yahoo Groups and type in BandBuddies.......it is a very imformative and one of the moderators is a WLS Nurse........you might note my name. Pam I too have a hiatial hernia and am concerned as to your outcome. My surgeon has discussed repairing it but I am concerned. I am not getting banded for a while but am looking forward to hearing what happens with you. Thank you for sharing. Kimberly

I have "heard" that sometimes people who are banded may have thinner abdominal walls, but in your case the hernia may be the cause, typically from what I hear a lower profile port and hernia repair may be the trick, good luck.

Maybe you guys didn't understand completely but I DID have the hernia repaired ( extensive hernia repair). The surgery lasted an extra 2 hours due to the size of the hernia. As for the port, I did lose 25 lbs already but I am more concerned with the stabbing pains in my stomach after eating. I to am also asthmatic which also interfered with my surgery and recovery. Thanks for the suggestions anyway.
