Question:
This is my response to the question I asked earlier!

January 31, 2008 Good Lord People, It was just a simple question that I asked. I am getting all these hateful emails. All I wanted to know is it there is anyone else like me, who had RNY done, then had a lapband. I had RNY done 7 years ago, I was 485lbs. I am down to 278 and I am having the lapband out on. If you cant answer the question or just want to tell me I didnt use the RNY tool correctly, the DON'T ANSWER and stop sending me private emails. I thought the people on this site were supportful, well thanks alot for the supportful answers.    — tylerswife (posted on January 31, 2008)

I am sorry that you got some hateful emails. I am just starting this process and am waiting on insurance approval. I have almost all the other stuff done. Just waiting. I hope you find the answer you are looking for.

Bariatric surgeons will not perform lapband on RNY patients but you can go from LapBand to RNY. Insurances will not pay for the second procedure anyway.

whoa, first of all you never mentioned your first surgery was 7 yrs. ago, and secondly, having lab band as well. i personally disagree with you, and would appreciate if your negative attitude would cease. you dont need to lash out at anyone gurl. your a big gurl, and if you didnt use your tool properly, then that is your fault. i have no desire to send you a personal e-mail. and you bet your ass this site is supportive, and helpful. sounds like you need to do the same FOR YOURSELF. good luck.

I think most people try to be positive...but sometimes we just need someone to say, "I understand....it's hard....keep on going....you're on the right path. And for sure you are...you've lost 200 pounds which is an incredible thing. Even though you have more to go....you're doing what you need to be doing. I'm just 2 1/2 weeks out....every day seems like a month. I've lost about 10 lbs. since surgery. I'm happy but then....I want pizza! lol. We are all struggling and I applaud the success you've already had. Chris

I thought i would put my response to your original question on here to....Rebecca, ...sorry you feel beat up with your question, but when you post a question you are asking for peoples opinions and thats what you got. Just simply take what you want from them and dismiss the rest. Actually from what is in this post, nobody said anything hateful to you. Sometimes we need to hear things we don't like. Don't take things so personnally. Some day you may give a poster some harsh advice too. I wish you the best in your adventure. As for the private emails being rude or mean, if you dont like it, block them. We all walk in the same shoes, some are further along then others. You will find certain people that you have faith in their answers and you like where there at.. you can always send them a private question asking their advice. But again, please dont take things so personally.

Most people are not as far out as we are. I am 4 1/2 years out. They don't know what it is like when you can eat almost anything. If we had willpower, none of us would have needed any surgery because we would have all lost it on our own. I think it is great that you have lost 200 pounds!!! That is a huge acomplishment right there! You do what is right for you and ignore those nasty people, wait til they are as far out as we are and the weight starts creeping on.

Rebecca - Congrats on your weight loss. I'm not sure how they work that and I'm sorry you had to get such ignorant emails. I had the gastric bypass a little over a year ago. I at first was going to get lap band then I did my homework and decided to go with the bypass. It has been the best thing I ever did. It saved my life. I just recently (Monday 1/28) had plastice surgery to remove the excess skin on my arms and my stomach and back side. I had lost a total of 113lbs from the bypass surgery. I weigh and measure all my food and stay away from sweets and fats. I do have some but very little. Do what you have to to get yourself healthy. There are alot of books on the subject. Educate yourself. I still order books for example Life after gastric bypass. Recipe books for gastric bypass patients, how to keep the weight off after gastric bypass etc. There is always something to learn and will help you keep on track. Best of luck Niecie

Hey Rebecca, I've heard of RNY after Lap; however, this it the first time I've heard it the other way around. I've heard of people having RNY revisions and depending on your insurance -- some do cover. Do what you need to do for yourself -- to heck what other people are saying or thinking. They did what they wanted to for themselves and if you feel the lapband is going to help you further -- then I say go for it! Holler,

Hello, I am sorry for those who have nothing better to do then put others down. the RNY does not work for every one. In fact it may work for the first year or so, but many put it back on. I had gastric bypass sept 04,07 some times my sweet tooth gets the best of me. This was a tool we got to help, but not everyone can do it. So for all those who send emails that are nasty go find a diffrent site! This site is for SUPPORT ONLY!!!

I am so sorry people are being mean to you. We all started out in the same boat....Fat! I hope these people remember how that was and how they were treated. I am losing but I will never forget how hurt I have been in the past. I never want to hurt people that way even under the guise of being helpful.

Please don't let negative answers discourage you. You've lost a tremendous amount of weight, but not as much as you'd like. While our pouch is only a tool, it may be one of those situations where more than one tool is needed to complete the job. Think about how many tools any tradesman needs to complete a job to satisfaction.....some jobs only require one, but others require more. While I started at a lower weight, I only lost about 60 lbs. I still weigh almost 190, and I also have been disappointed to realize that even using my tool to the best of my ability, it didn't perform as I'd hoped. I think you're making a wonderful decision, knowing that it's not through your failure of anything you did wrong - but that you want to continue to be the best you can be. Good luck in your continued journey!

I have been a lurker on here for 2 months waiting for insurance approval and doing all the required things. I am sorry people can be so negative. Most of the responses on here are wonderful, helpful & seem to be from caring people. But you will always have a few people who lash out but try to remember it is their anger within themselves and they are not happy positive people. If you have a problem making you feel bad about yourself is not helpful. I like the suggestion from the lady that said to try reading about you RYN and trying to start over you can do this. Get it in your head and your body will follow. I wish you all the best. Bev

I don't have an answer for your question, but I do want to say SHAME ON THE PEOPLE SENDING YOU HATEFUL EMAILS!!! No two surgery's and people are alike. Know that there are supportive people on here and ignore the ignorant ones.

I am sorry people are being so negative towards you. You did not ask them to tell you WHY you are having problems , so who asked them to give that advice/comments? You wanted to talk to other people in your situation who can give advice, comments. I personally dislike unsolicited advice on topics that I did not request advice on such as WHY I gained weight, or that I didn't use something properly.

I just wanted to state that first of all this site is, yes for support only, but sometimes that "support" is tough love. I agree with one of the poster's -- You ask a question from everyone, be prepared to get both negative and positive responses. I am not one to sugar coat life and say "that's ok honey" when it's really not. I tell it like it is, no matter who gets upset etc. I try to be helpful, tell the truth and then give some kind of support. Hang in there, if it was meant to be it was meant to be, but I personally think lap band is not going to help after RNY. (I pray I'm wrong) Whether you want to hear it or not ALL wls is just a tool, it's up to you whether it works or not. Make sure there aren't under lying issues mentally that you need to address with a psych before getting this newer surgery. Good luck and God bless and congrats on losing over 200 lbs!

Sorry people are being mean to you. Remind them that these are only TOOLS to use. Not everything works for everyone. I do have a friend that had bypass 28 yrs ago. She's not really sure of the procedure that they did back then but she lost 100 lbs after that surgery but after 5 yrs started gaining wt again and now she is going to have lapband the end of Feb. Good luck to you and whatever you need to lose wt is your perogative. Hang in there and go for it.

Do whatever you deem necessary. If you can afford it or your insurance will pay for it then you do what you need to do to ensure your health and longevity!
