Question:
I am having difficulty keeping up with all the vitamins...I hate taking pills!

Any suggestions to streamline the process? I know they can't all be taken at once--but I'm a slacker.    — conmonster (posted on August 12, 2010)

Hi Connie! I understand where you're coming from. I, too, have difficulty getting all my pills taken in a day. However, this is what has worked for me lately - I take my biotin, multi-vitamin, iron, and antacid in the morning after I eat. Then 2 hours later, I take a chewable calcium pill (500 mg). I set my cell phone alarm for 4 hours later and 8 hours after I take that calcium. I take the calcium a total of 3 times. Then, before I hop in bed, I take another multi-vitamin and my B-12 supplement. It's a lot, I know, but regardless of our amazing slacker abilities, it's something we HAVE to do. Good luck!

Hi, Connie I understand what you are saying. Sometimes I feel like I can't eat because my stomach is full of pills. I take medication along with vitamins, etc. UGH I found a pill carrier that has 7 separate cases, each marked for a day of the week.I load everything on Sunday, and then I can grab a new one each morning. This helps because I don't have to fuss in the AM when I'm going to work, I can monitor my progress with a glance during the day (I use an alarm also), and I can feel victorious when the case is empty at night. Seems childish I know, but you do what you need to do. Good luck. Trisha

I love what Fran said, slacker or not you have to do it period! We chose this operation so we have to take responsibility for the way we have to live the rest of our lives. I was told if you chose to have the sleeve, you didn't have to take all the vitamins, but with the RNY you malabsorption problems. I certainly do not want medical problems, and I know you do not either. It is the way of life my weight loss sister! Today is my year anniversary and I am so happy I did this operation, even though it has been a very rough road to wellness. I have been a vitamin taker for years so it is not a big deal, however that darn iron gets to me a lot of the time. Good luck!

I take liquid vitamins. There is a powder I mix with water then add the liquid part, top it off with just a bit of Orange Juice and drink. It goes down well and has more stuff than any of the bariatric vitamins. I am four months out, so far no hair loss, I feel SUPER and have tons of energy. If you want to know more, just email me at [email protected]

I have not had surgery YET, but I take a few pills a day. I also use my phone alarm as a reminder or I forget. Keep your head up and keep trying.

I too had a problem taking all my vitamins until I discovered the wonderful world of Celebrate Vitamins...and no I don't work for them! I order my 90 day supply of their vitamins and take a lemon calcium chew in the morning along with my multivitamin..after lunch I have my grape chewable iron plus C and with that I take my delicious cherry sublingual B12..then again at night I get another lemon bite with another chewable Berry multivitamin. I look forward to taking my vitamins because they are treats to me now. One thing I love about Celebrate is that they will give you free samples of any of their products so that you can try before you buy. Their chewy calcium lemon bites are like a Starburst chew. They are even better if you put them in the fridge. All of their chewable products are delicious, less the Cherry and Hot cocoa chewable calcium but the chocolate calcium chews are like a tootsie roll. But you have nothing to lose by going on line and ordering some samples and what's even better is they are formulated for each particular surgery type. i hope I've helped you out here. Also when they send your sample pack there is a cool laminated card in there that says the carrier of this card is a gastric bypass patient and where possible please allow them to order a child size portion off your menu..I've used it a couple of times and have never been met with any resistance...mostly just questions about the surgery! Good luck. BTW i'm almost 2 years out, have lost 115 lbs, am 5lbs under my goal weight and my labs are always excellent!
