Never heard of that. If you are healthy that doesn't make sense. Anyway, talk with your doctors about all your options. And don't do the surgery until you are certain about your procedure and the amount of weight you want to lose. Good Luck! vinnigirl

Yes, I do know that is true in some facilities. We had a choice of two Medicare approved facilities in our area, one wouldn't do it for anyone over 65. When my husband called the other place as he is 69, they told him it depended on his general health, info from his primary Dr. and his cardiologist and said there last older person was 72. He is now 1&1/2 weeks post-op. Go to www.cms.hhs.gov Click on Medicare, then click on Medicare approved facilities, trial, registries - then under Overview, click on Bariatric Surgery. Off to the right, you can see where you can find your state & it will list facilities there. I would phone each one in your area and ask their age limit. That's what we did. Also ask about out of pocket cost for each program. One near us was $1200 and the one we ended up with was $250. Good Luck! Mary Pardue

Dear Betty, I am 67 yrs old and am scheduled for RGY on Jan 5. My Dr told me there is an age 18-65 but if you get medical clearance from your pcp and all your pre-op testing is favorable, it is not a problem. I got approval from my insurance co. in one week. Talk to your surgeon- he will tell you what he considers medically necessary. Good luck,Donna
