Question:
Cramping pain where drainage tube was removed.

I'm 4 weeks post op with a gastric sleeve. The area where the drainage tube was removed I still have some cramping/ pulling pain, the skin on the outside has healed. I was wondering if any one else is experincing this or had experienced it. Or maybe you know if it is normal or what it could be. Thanks for any input on this.    — [Deactivated Member] (posted on March 31, 2010)

Hi, I had the RNY in Jan and can tell you that the most painful part for me was the drainage incision. I had a lot of pulling and pain from inside and it was explained to me that it was sutured tightly because it would be appropriate once you lost weight. I'm just about 3 mos post op and down 76 lbs. It doesn't "stick out" or hurt at all anymore, but it was definitely a sore spot for quite a while. The good news is that it's normal and will get better. The bad news ? nahhhhhh there's no bad news, every day you'll feel a little better. Good luck.. Hope you are pain free soon !

I agree with Karen it will get better each day. Remember you are healing from the inside out. Even though your outside has healed, your inside is still healing. It takes time and will feel better as days come. I had a hernia incision heal and open back up. OMG it took about a month for it to heal inside out. I had to keep it covered with gauze because it oozed. It was a pin hole and a mess. Right by my navel. But now that it is healed everything is fine. I am 4 months out and 80lbs down. You will be just fine. Hang in there.

I had RNY and my doctor told me that the drainage site will hurt/feel funny for about 3 months because underneath that they sewed something or other to the muscle that runs vertical in your belly. It gets better trust me. I'm almost 3 weeks out and barely feel anything.
