Question:
The million dollar question...on hair loss!

When I wash my hair, I have to spend time picking it out of my fingers, same thing when I condition, then when I brush it, and when I put mousse in it. Then on top of all of that, I have to pick the hairs off of my shirt when I am done blow drying. This is so time consuming. Anyone else feel this way? I'm surprised that I'm not bald yet. So I bought some zinc and biotin because I have seen it recommended on this site. How much of each do I take a day? Do I take with food or on empty pouch? How long will it take after starting these vitamins for the hair loss to stop? I'm starting to look into wigs. Has anyone had to resort to that? HELP!!    — Cheri M. (posted on February 25, 2002)

First of all, don't panic. Yes, your hair will get pretty sparse for a while, but it WILL grow back. I recommend Nature's Bounty "Vitamins for the Hair" which stopped my hair loss dead in its tracks and caused re-growth within 1 month. Thank God for that product!!!

I use 'Hair, Skin, & Nails' by Futurbiotics, it stopped my hair loss in its tracks :) The bottle said to take three a day, but doc told me I was getting too many vits and knocked me down to one a day, it's still working. I had very noticable regrowth within a couple of weeks.

Hi Cheri. I take 600 mcg. of Biotin and 30 mg. of Zinc every day. I generally take them early in the morning on an empty stomach. I'm not sure if that's the proper time to take them -- it was when the guy at GNC suggested was the best time. Good luck.

Just curious about something...I am pre op, and wonder...If I were to purchase these vitimins and start taking them now, would they prevent hair loss, or perhaps make it less? My hair is not too thick as it is, and I worry very much about hair loss. I am a singer and up in front of people. A bald head wouldn't look to cool! LOL

The only way to stop hair loss, is to pull it all out. It will stop when it's ready and come back.

Try Nixoxin shampoo, conditioner, vitamin spray or www.taosherb.com there is a good herb shampoo. Both are good for hair loss. Nixoxin you can buy at cost cutters. The hair loss eventually stops but it's soooo frustrating

PS: I tried the biotin and zinc. I took them months before surgery and after....No help at all. The Nixoxin really did help me though. I noticed a big difference in the hair I was pulling out. Good Luck!!

My hair dresser recommends scalp massage. When you wash your hair (and also several times throughout the day) use your finger tips (NOT your nails) and, well, massage your scalp! Be sure to rub your scalp back and forth across your skull (if this makes sense, lol) to really get the blood flowing and get to the roots of your hairs. And don't worry about touching your hair more than necessary...if the hair's gonna fall out, it's gonna fall out regardless. She said most people who have thinning hair are scared to touch it any more than necessary. Don't worry though.

I started to use something called Hair Nourish from GNC and it worked great. I stopped taking them for appox. 1 month and could I ever tell the difference. Now I make sure to included them with my daily vitamins and I hair is doing 100% better. Hair loss has almost come to a stop and it is feeling much thicker and healthier. I am approx. 6 months post-op.
