Question:
Pressure and Pain in pouch area after 1-2 small bites of food

I had GBS on August 20, 2007. I had been doing so well and handling food ok that my Dr. said that I could eat solid food now. I have been eating chicken, fish, eggs, and soft foods now for about 2 weeks. A little bit after I started to eat more solid foods anytime I ate I would have a pressure feeling in my pouch. It has gotten worse now.....I cannot eat ANYTHING without this pressure and really bad pain. The only time I can eat is about 8:00 pm....and I'm ok I don't have any pressure or pain. Its gotten so bad that I just don't eat anything all day just drink my water instead until 8:00 pm. I am doing everything I am supposed to do....wait an hour before eating after drinking....waiting an hour and half after eating to drink....chew 30 times before swallowing....small bites....avoiding bad carbs...no sugar. I call my Dr. everyday about things but I was just wondering if anybody else out there is experiencing this or has experienced this? Any comments or advice would be greatly appreciated and helpful. Thank you!    — SouthernBelle21 (posted on September 29, 2007)

I am almost even with you. I had R EN Y on August 7th. I have experienced that feeling, but only if something gets stuck in my pouch. If it were me I think I would ask for an Endoscopy and see if you need dialation. Maybe the hole isn't large enough for things to enter and go through smoothly. Good luck

I really think you should talk to your Doc about stricture (I think that's what they call it) when you incision has healed to tightly between your new pouch and it's connection to the relocated intestine. I know someone who had the same problem as you-they had to have the balloon thru the endoscopy procedure twice, but are doing great now. Good Luck!

Did you have lapband surgery or gastric bypass?

I agree with the possibility of a stricture but could it be you are not ready for what you are eating or just plain can't tolerate it? I am almost 2 years out and somethings still make me wanna die for a couple of hours after eating them. Ground beef and talapia are to of the worst, but I can eat something like a steak. Could it also be that your pouch is working REALLY well in the restrictive part of the surgery? Remember at this stage you still may be at the size of a walnut and can't eat much. Rule out the stricture of course though. Best wishes!

It could be a stricture.. I had one.. I'm one year out of surgery.. It started when I ate solid foods.. I would throw up ALOT.. Just after a couple of bites.. The main symptom for a stricture is eating a little with pain and throw up white foam... The foam is actually undigested spit... Check with your doctor.. Hope this helps..
