Question:
Please Read Need Answer ASAP

Ok, as you all know, my surgery is tomorrow. I lost the 20lbs required but tonight my family is making me a nice dinner & that is, lemon chicken breast, brown rice & salad. Would it be ok for me to have this now, 5:24pm eastern time before a 6:30am surgery tomorrow?    — Ruth M. (posted on February 15, 2009)

I don't think you would want to eat that before any type of surgery that required general anethesia. The day before my surgery I was allowed egg whites for breakfast and clear liquids the rest of the day. So no, my doctor wouldn't have allowed me to have that dinner.

I was just told to fast for 12 hours! I had my "last Supper" about the same time and ate nothing after and was fine! Good luck!!! Will be thinking about you!

You don't say what type of surgery you are having but if it a GB you may not eat - you don't want anything solid in your bowels at all. What kind of pre-op instructions did your doctor give you? Did you do a bowel prep?

Your doctor should have told you. I was on clear liquids for 24 hours before my surgery. You don't say what kind of surgery you're having, so it's kind of hard for any of us to give you advice. But, are you sure you don't already know the answer?

I was on a very strict liquids only diet for 2 weeks. Nothing but clear liquids for 24 hours before. I would not eat that. My Dr would have cancelled my suregery if he found out about it.

I would also have to say a big NO! I had to be on liquids the day before surgery. Please don't risk it!

Dr. Gachassin told me to diet a week before my gastric by-pass to shrink the liver. Complications arise if the liver is swollen, which make you inoperable!

I was on liquids 3 weeks prior to surgery and clear liquids 2 days before. I was also told nothing 12 hrs prior, not even water. I don't know what your surgeon told you but most doctors require a bowel prep diet. You should call the office ASAP and find out.

I'd have to say a huge NO! It could only cause complications. I wouldn't risk it. You've come this far, you wouldn't want your surgery to be postponed. My anesthiesist (sp?) asked me if I had anything to eat or drink. I don't know what would have happened if I had said yes... Good luck.......our prayers are with you.

I WOULD NOT EAT ANYTHING THE NIGHT BEFORE SURGERY. I WAS TOLD I COULD NOT HAVE ANYTHING SOLID IN MY STOMACH OR MY SURGERY WOULD BE CANCLED.
