Question:
Waiting for approval, may be changing ins. soon. What do I do?

My husband may be changing employers soon. When this happens I'll be 60 days without insurance. I'm waiting for approval from BCBS of MI, I'm figuring it will be about 6 weeks before he changes jobs I'm hoping this will be enough time to get approved and have surgery. I feel like I can't wait any longer. I went for psych eval yesterday. Anyone have any advise???    — Niki G. (posted on June 7, 2000)

What about Cobra? If you dont lapse in coverage between the two companies they cant give you ( the new insurance) a pre-existing condition.. Now if you let your other insurance lapse then you would have to wait up to 18 months i believe... I know Cobra can be expensive but it might be the only thing to do and might save you heartache just in case BCBS doesnt approve in 6 weeks hope this helps

I would pay the COBRA payment for the months that you have no insurance or until you have surgery. I really wonder if you could get all of this done with within the next six weeks. Just my opinion. there is a line waiting just for the surgery even after all the pre-op stuff is done. It will be worth the little bit of COBRA payment to make sure the surgery is paid for.

I just went through the same situtation. I had a 8 week time period before my husband switched jobs and not all my tests cam back in time. My husband switched jobs right as the doctors office was ready to submit to the insurance. Luckly my husband persuaded his new employer to pay for three months of Cobra insurance. Now I am having the surgery on 6/26 Thank Goodness for Cobra!!! If you have any questions please email me [email protected]
