Question:
sagging skin at 3 months?

I am only 3 months out and my skin is starting to sag noticeably! What exercises can I be doing to prevent this? I am definitely getting my water in, don't smoke and don't am only 22...I would assume there is some certain exercises I can be doing to prevent this, its especially bad in my belly and back. Any suggestions?    — wecangetright (posted on April 21, 2007)

Katie, welcome to the loser club! The good news is that you are losing, and that is great, the bad news is, skin is unforgiving. When it is stretched, it does not bounce back. You can try and tone your muscles, but skin is not a muscle, it will not tone back. Don't be discouraged. Spandex is your friend, use it and be happy with the outward appearance in clothing. If it gets too bad, sometimes insurance will help with some surgeries. This is just one huge consequence of obesity. We have to learn to deal with those issues, so don't get discouraged! Take care, Patricia P.

Hello Katie, Go to www.self.com and sign up for the self challenge. They have videos of exercises for each week that assist with toning and strengthening as well as cardio. If you have been exercises for the past 3 months and have built up at least 30 minutes on a stationary bike, try the elipitcal trainer. That machine will tone and tighten everything you have and some things you didn't think you had. By signing up for the self challenge, you'll also get 2 weeks free at Gold's Gym. Some of the Gold's have a machine that targets the thighs (I gotta work on those as well) as well as the stomach. I noticed my upper arms last night -- not bad sagging, but enough to know that I've gotta get back in the gym since it appears this cold season is over. Let me know if you join the Self Challenge --we could become workout buddies and help keep each other on track. I'm only 2 months out and up until freezing Easter I was working out if not everyday but every other day so I've got to get back on my game.

Yeah... I'm 3 1/2 month out (down 117 lbs!) and my arms are what I call "bat-flap" SO much loose skin.. mostly my arms. But you know what? I don't really care-- I'm healthier that I've been in years and I feel good. I wasn't going to wear a bikini before anyway, so I will just do my best with what I have, at least I have my health. I understand your dismay though, ask me when I've lost even more and I'll probably change my mind a little and want to get rid of the excess skin. For now I would suggest as I've been doing. Just do your excercise, lose your weight, and worry about the after effects later. Best wishes and congrats on your weight loss!

The faster you loose the more sag you get. My doctor says the best thing to do is water aerobics. You are toning as you are loosing and the sag is less noticeable. Although in some places surgery might be necessary after about two years.

Walking is a good exercise for every part of your body (arms too, if you pump them) Water aerobics are good, easy on the joints and still able to work those muscles. Weight training (low weights with lots of repetition - slow and controlled movements, not fast) And, isometric exercises (like pilates) hope this helps... congrats on the surgery, and obvious results...
