Question:
After your surgery did you have a numb lip?

I had my surgery on October 15th and now its been seven days and I still can not feel my bottom lip. It scared me when I 1st woke up cause I thought I had a stroke or something but that is not the case I'm sure of that. I'm thinking that my lip got caught on my teeth when the tube was going down. I'm 25 years old and I should wear a bib now every time I go to take a drink I spill it on my self. It looks normal and all no cuts, sagging or anything like that, I have been giving it a massage thinking it cut off the nerves while it was caught on my teeth. I asked while I was in the hospital and all I kept getting was that "Yeah" look like its normal? So has anyone else had this problem and if so how did it turn out? Thanks A lot :)    — TattooGirl1982 (posted on October 22, 2007)

Gosh, I will have my surgery VSG on Thursday so I really don't know anything, but my gut says you should probably call your doctor just to see what he has to say. Pat

I would suggest you notify your surgeon. It may be from the breathing tube, but after this amount of time he may want to know. Let me know how it comes out!

my neice is Director of Nursing she said it is very possible it was from the anesthesia. However you spell that word. So I would get it checked out. Good luck!!

I had my RNY on September 24th and had the same numb bottom lip when I woke up. It took the better part of 3 weeks but I got all the feeling back. I was told it is a side affect of the anesthesia. Give it a little more time. You would be surprised how long it takes for the anesthesia to leave your body. You are usually clear of it in about 2 weeks. Good luck with everything!!

I had my RNY two days ago, and I woke up with a numb lower lip also. I figure my teeth and the breathing tube were pressing on it. I'm glad you posted your question because I was wondering about the same thing.
