Question:
Has anyone been diagnosed with fibromyalgia?

I have been feeling like my muscles are just withering away and they are achy and I am so tired all the time. I have told my doctor my symptoms and he thought maybe I had fibromyalgia. I had RNY almost 4 years ago, but I know this is isn't from the surgery but perhaps I am able to feel the aches more since losing 90 lbs. What are your thoughts. Any suggestions or advise would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for your comments.    — Kristy (posted on October 16, 2008)

I have fibromyalgia, and it's been bothering me too, I think its due to the weather changes. I had my RNY on June 19 2008. I have had fibro for 10 yrs. What has the doctor put you on? Ive been on many different medications for pain but now I just go to PT. Sandi

I have Fibromyalgia, rhematoid arthritis. Have had both for 16 years. I have not had the surgery yet. I know that this year has been the absolute worst for my aches. I never miss work because I could take pain medication and continue to work since I have a desk job. But the last 9 months, I have missed a lot of work and have actually called for appts. with my arthritis/fibro Dr. I have not hurt this bad for 10 years. I do not think it has anything to do with your surgery, I think this is just a bad year. The only thing that has worked for me is stronger pain medication and a pulsesating machine. My cigna insurance pays for this and when placed on sore muscles it emits small pulses that gradually relaxing those muccles. It is pure heaven. You may check on that. If you do not have a Arthritis Specialist, you should do so right away

i have a product that my mom has been taking for years to help her fibro. it is called TAG- it is a specially designed Glutamine product that works with the muscles instead of the digestive system like other gluteamines. it works. she takes a serving in the morning and one after dinner. she mixes 1 scoop into juice and drinks it down. here is the site www.trans-alanyl-glutamine.com try it, it will work.

I was diagnosed with fibro earlier this year, and once I started on some pain meds and muscle relaxers, and was actually able to do things again, I started feeling better. These days, I very seldom take my meds. Although, with the weather getting colder, the pain in my joints and muscles have been getting a little more noticeable, and if I do anything outside for too long, I will be in a little too much pain.

I have had fibromyalagia for 12 years. Since surgery it has been much better. You do need to take medication to help make it better! I have taken cymbalta now for the past four years. What a great medication for fibromyalgia and the surgery just helped it make it better. Do not take the medication that is advertised on TV for this condition, it has shown to cause serious weight gain. Hope this helps! Good Luck! Walk it helps too. Lisa

HI, I too had RNY 4 years ago and I know exactely what you are feeling. I have been doing research and it's because of Anemia. I thought it was restless leg syndrome and I take meds for that and it helps somewhat. But the real culprit is anemia. I am having tests with a gastro Doctor to look for the anemia. It makes me very tired, makes my muscles feel weak and achy. Check with your Doctor for anemia..

Ask your doctor to refer you to a good rheumatologist in your area. They should be able to help determine if what you have is fibromyalgia. If it is, there are medicines that can help you. I have been on Lyrica for the past several months, and it has made a world of difference for me!! Although I still have some muscle pain and tenderness, it is not nearly as bad as before. The biggest difference for me has been that I FEEL so much better!!

I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia about 12 yrs. ago. Seems like it flares really bad in the fall and spring when the weather starts to change. I take Cymbalta and don't have a lot of pain but the fatigue is the worst. Fibromyalgia is usually diagnosed if you have pain/tenderness in certain points in your body - shoulders, elbows, knees - there are actually I think 8 places that your rheumatologist can check to determine if you have fibromyalgia. Therapeutic massage is another helpful treatment, and water exercise is tolerated more easily than regular exercise - at least in my case. Good luck...

It's really a shame that all people want to do is take pain meds that just block the nerve endings thus the pain is gone. They never think of the damage the meds do to the body, i.e. liver, kidneys etc. Why not take the same thing the body uses to solve the pain problem---protalitic enzyme. These are better known as ant-inflammatory enzymes. They can be found in "mangosteen" by the "boat load" You can get them in a "liquid" vitamin / mineral supplement like VEMMA,that is a mangosteen base. Stop the pain of fibromyalgia, arthritis, and plantar fasciitis. Go to www.TrySomeVemma.com
