Question:
denied for the DS

my insurance said my bmi wasn't high enough, now i've read alot about everyone's different opinions about the rny the lapband and the ds, my choices would be between the lapband and the rny, I believe I'll out eat the lapband and the rny sounds as if I could too, I need to lose more than half my body weight and I don't know what would do it, I seriously want the DS but short of gaining more weight I don't think I can get it any ideas on anything?    — lightburn (posted on September 14, 2006)

Dear K- I had the lap RHY this past April my starting weight was 286 and I am now 180 - you can lose the amount you need to - each of us will lose at our own rate and you need to psych yourself to be prepared you will always from now forward only be able to eat so much. After the first couple of weeks post op I was taking in about 300 calories per day - now I am usually at about 500-600. It takes a good 3 months for your energy to start to come back so be patient- I went back to work 1 month post op- and with other emergent health issues that came up within my family that was too soon and I think the Lord worked it out because I ended up losing my job and I have spent the past 3 months at home- the energy is back and I am doing so much more- however I am now ready to return to work. I am finding this whole process takes a lot of patience which I am slowing learning to develop. Good luck! Donna 286/180/145

Hi K - I-'m having the RNY next week and I chose that over the lap band because you have the same restrictions for both and you lose faster with the RNY. I've read some great results from people her on the RNY. Good luck on making the right decision for you.

Many people take out loans for wls. There are a number of companies that offer low interest loans for medical procedures. From what I understand, its much cheaper to go out of the country to have it done as well. Good luck.
