Question:
Any suggestions for a nonchewable multi vitamin?

I have started taking a chewable multi vitamin pre-op per my Nut. I am having a really hard time with it. I am wondering if anyone can suggest a pill I can swallow that will be ok post-op.    — chemo_mom (posted on January 15, 2010)

I couldn't handle the flinstone vitamins, so I took the viactive chewable vitamins. they are chocolate flavored and pretty good. You won't be able to swallow vitamins for awhile after surgery because of the chance they will get stuck on the stoma because of their size. Trust me, I tried it. It was very painful and didn't try it again until the doc said it would be ok. I now take Centrum Silver - although I am not 50. They make them in a smaller size and my doc says that is ok. Good luck!

Centrum now has a chewable multi-vitamin. ALso Costco carries LiquidMax which is a liquid vitamin, mineral and antioxidants. It has boosted my energy level and is about 12.50 for a months supply.

Have you tried the Gummy Vitamins for Adults at CostCo (Multi Vites by Vitafusion? They taste like candy.

Hi, I am 6 years post op. I have taken all types of vitamins over the past years. None of them worked, recently I just switched to a liquid vitamin and its great. It has made me feel so much better. Its not just for post op people either. Its called Vemma, you order it online and it ships to your house. If you have any questions let me know. You can look online at www.jones.vemma.com or email me

Not sure what surgery you are having. I take Bariatric Advantage multi vitamin. I hated the chewable but they have a fairly new capsule. I have not had any problems swallowing, only thing is you have to take 6 a day, 3 in the morning and 3 lunch. They go down really easy, what I take is for RNY patients. They have a 90 day program that includes the Multi, calcuim, iron and B12 that is specifically formulated for RNY and they autoship them to you. Please don't try to skimp on your vitamins, especially if your having RNY surgery. Its just not worth the few dollars you save.

I am 5 years out and take GNC's Mega Green Vitamins. They were recommended by my Dr.'s office.

I started taking the centrums chewable too. They are adult vitamins vs flintstones, etc. Usually there are coupons in the paper too so you can buy them at a good price :)

Flinstone's Gummy vitamins rocked! I also have to take Vitamax. If only they could find a way to make THOSE darn things taste good...

WOW based on the answers here looks like everybody tried something different. So bottom line is try lots & whatever works for you is the one you'll stick with. I'm only 3 weeks out RNY gastric & the day I came home from the hospital I've taken my normal vitamins multi w/iron, calcium citrate w/D 2 times a day, flaxseed 1000 mg, b-12,b6 and they have not bothered my stomach at all. I buy all my vitamins from Puritan.com as you buy 2 bottles & get 3 free.......I've always taken vitamins but now increasing 3 other doses throughout the day. I've been told that Calcium & Iron can't be taken together. So I have a pill box with 4 time slots. I'm also checking at Puritan for prenatal vitamins because someone told me they've taken them for 3 years after surgery & it helps with hair loss even though I've had none yet (I'd like to help prevent it) 3 weeks and down 21 lbs. so I'd do it again in a heartbeat.......best of luck to you :-)

I like the Gummie Vites. When I was experiencing complications, I found a vitamin lotion at the pharmacy. It is called Sea Blue. It works well and there are several different types. I would rub the cream behind my knee on soft thin skin.
