Question:
I HAVE PAIN WHEN I SWALLOW SOMETIMES

I HAD THE LAP BAND DONE IN JUNE I HAVE ONLY LOST 15 LBS, I HAVE ALWAYS ATE GOOD HEALTHY FOODS, NO SODA, SWEETS ETC. I AM A VERY SLOWW EATER AND CHEW VERY WELL. I HAVE HAD 4 FILLS AND FINALLY WITH THE LAST ONE I FEEL SOME RESTRICTION. SOMETIMES (ESPECIALLY WITH MEATS) I CAN FEEL IT GOING DOWN THE ESOPHOGUS AND IT HURTS UNTIL IT PASSES THRU MY BAND, I THINK. CAN THIS HURT MY THROAT PERMANENTLY? I FEEL LIKE A BOA CONSTRICTOR.    — MAYROSE (posted on December 6, 2007)

I had my surgery in June and have had 4 fills also. I just recently have started to feel some retriction. I have lost 42 pds howeer. When I get the pain - I find that I have either eaten too big of a bite or put too much in my mouth at the same time - even though they were small bites - OR even though they are small bites I have eaten them too quickly. Rather than wait for it to hurt all the way down - I have gone to the bathroom and "slimed" it up. I think it's a good tool - to get us to SLOW down and eat tiny bites and just little bits a time. Dont' get discouraged. cj

I also had my surgery in June and have had 3 fills. I have my next one scheduled and have been a little fearful about being too aggressive about getting fills as often as I could. I have some restriction but not a lot and I have gotten stuck several times so just prefer to take it slow. I have lost 56lbs but haven't lost anything in at least a month. The last couple of weeks I had not been making fabulous food choices with the holidays etc but thankfully am now back on track. My doc says that "we" probably think we eat slowly enough because it's so much slower that pre surgery but it's not necesssarily "lap band slow" Like the previous poster, I find that when I get stuck even though I chew well and take smaller bites etc, sometimes I don't wait long enough between bites. I have since slowed that down and haven't gotten "stuck"

Congradulations on the 15 pounds. Continue to do what you are doing. I would make sure the meat you are eating is cut up into pea size bites, that you chew chew and chew some more. I don't think it will hurt your throat. If you have problems with liguids and can't keep things down call your surgeon. gabluecrab

If it's that uncomfortable I think I would contact my surgeon and let him know. He would know best (with your input) if it's OK or if it may be an overfill for now.

I know exactly what you mean, I get that as well. I had my surgery in April & have lost 41 lbs, most of it after my third fill. I recently had my 4th fill. I get that feeling a lot & do take small bits & have always chewed well.
