Question:
Last week there was a post about this DR. in VA beach that did RNY for $6500. I went
to the site link and his name is Dr. Amarasinghes, I wrote down his ## and called them one was changed and one disconected. Again he is in VA beach. If anyone has any imfo on him please tell write to me. I can;t even find his website anymore and the post is gone — Jozie H. (posted on November 20, 1999)

Hello. First I would like to say that I dont know how it feels to have to
be self pay as my operation was covered at 100%. Secondly, if his phone
number has been changed and his second line disconnected, his website gone
and his fee so low, he doesn't sound like a very reputable doctor to begin
with. If I were you, I would take this as a sign from a higher power that
the operation with this particular surgeon was not to be. I would be very
leary of him. Find someone who is reputable and known. This is your life
we are talking about. Don't trust it to some quack who obviously can't
afford to keep his phone number and website activated. You are more

you might try the ASBS website. If he's a member they will have his info
posted there. And if you find him there you can trust that he's an
experienced bariatric surgeon.

BTW, if your BMI is just 32 you are really not a candidate for WLS.

understand, his pages are very informative.

My doctors fee, as he stated in his letter to my insurance, is 5500,
however, this does not include his surgical assistant or the hospital stay.
My surgeon is considered one of best in the state and has been performing
this surgery for 10+ years. You can find a reasonable doctor however the
hospital is quite another matter. Good Luck and God Speed. Be careful
looking for bargain with you life

I have a personal knowledge, at least to the effect, that this Dr. is
pretty bad about returning calls etc. He can also be really really rude,
although I know this from other then a Dr./pt relationship. Dr Steven
Sheckner is also in Va. Bch (his office is by Mt Trashmore)and I was real
happy with him. Contact me if you want further info.
