Question:
Does anyone know if you are required to pay copay for hospital during preregistration

I am getting ready for surgery and was told I have to pre register and not sure if they require the copay to be paid upfront.    — Doshia M. (posted on November 18, 2007)

My husband had surgery on Friday and we did not have to pay the copay but each hospital and/or insurance may be different. Keep us updated on your progress.

Typically the only copay you have to pay upfront is a doctor's visit. Hospital stays and things like that are billed to you. Hope that helps!

It all depends on your insurance carrier and hospital policy. The copay may need to be paid at your pre-registration time or it must be paid prior to discharge from the hospital. You could call the hospital before you get to the appointment.

Doshia, Congrats on your upcoming surgery Each facility is different. I had to pay my hospital co-pay up front through the surgeons office.

I had to pre-register at the hospital in Atlanta, and also pay my hospital co-pay at that time. But as others have said, each facility is different. Just be prepared if you have to or call ahead and find out. Good luck and God bless!

I had to pay a copay at the hospital. I only had to pay a small amount of the total amount due, however, I had to put money down.

I have to pay my co-pay and any out of pocket expenses on Novemebr 28 at my last pre-op visit (my surgery is Dec 12), but all docs and insurances are different. You should call your doctor's office. If it helps, I am having lap RNY and my out of pocket expenses are $1363.

I had to pay my $100 copay at the time of preregistration. However. this was refunded to me since I was never officially admitted to the hospital with my overnite stay for my surgery.

I had to pay what they estimated to be my share at registration - $1625.
