Question:
Cant eat!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

THANKS FOR ALL THE INFO ON THE PROTEIN DRINKS AND BARS I AM JUST GETTING WORRIED BECAUSE I DONT WANT FOOD I EAT MAYBE ONE MEAL A DAY IF THAT I AM ON SOFT FOODS NOW BUT JUST THE SMELL OF ANY FOOD IS HORRIBLE I REALLY HAVE TO FORCE MYSELF. Unless you have some type of restriction going on, then I'd advise you to eat whatever protein you can AND take the protein dirnks. The bad smell phase should go away shortly. In the mean time, put a clothespin on your nose. You need nutrition, or you'll be back in the hospital. DAVE

Just take very small sips and bites, and that will help. Measure out what you need to eat and work at it for 30 Minutes and then stop. Make sure you wait two hours and try again. The reason you need to measure to your plate and measure what you trash is to make sure you met the goals each day. I had to stay up many a night until midnight when I first got home to get the food I needed. I saw too many people that had minor complication on this site and with the support group, and when I heard their issues, I realised that each of them did not follow all the rules and eat or excersize as the doctored ordered. There have been a few that have had some complication that did, but t for the most part is those who don't have the problems sooner or later. Please, do what you have to but dringk and eat what the doctor tells you to, to prevent other issues weeks from now when you want to be feeling better and just enjoing loosing that weight. Day at a time and do what you can! Don't give up and keep trying or you will not heal without protein...In the jello food section there is a collegen protein for nails there...It is orange flavor and has B and C vitamins in it...Tastes like Tang, but only has 7 proteins...Still it is better than nothing...It's called "Knoxnails" I use it for nails of course..and days I need a little extra protein and am not "hungry" for food or a heavy protein drink...It is not thick like gelatine either...Very gentle flavor...Mix in your water if you still can't get protein in...You will like this! http://www.drugstore.com/qxp78765_333181_sespider/knox/for_nails_gelatine_dietary_supplement_orange_flavor.htm

That no appetite phase really does go away... it's pretty common actually. Nothing tastes good and everything smells funky. Still, you have to find a way to get in some nutrition or you'll end up in the hospital. I'm an RN and when I used to work in the ER, I frequently had post op WLS patients in the same predicament and had to give them massive IV fluids and yellow bags to keep them alive. Some had to be re-admitted to the hospital for malnutrition and dehydration. I agree with the previous author, plug your nose if you have to. Here is my favorite protein shake which smells and tastes yummy: *1 Atkins shake- flavor of your choice *1 scoop protein powder- flavor of your choice *10 frozen blueberries *3 frozen strawberries *A handfull of ice cubes Whip it in the blender and enjoy. Even if you have to just slowly sip all day, do it. If you have a Smoothie King in your area, order the low carb banana chocolate smoothie with an extra scoop of protein powder- just like ice cream and yummy. Take some Immodium if you are prone to diarrhea. I will also buy a strawberry vanilla one and put it in the freezer for later. The medium size only has 7 carbs and LOTS of protein. I don't use these as snacks by the way, only as meal replacement if I have a lot of restricton after a fill. Good luck, Dawn

Bottom line - I went through the same thing. You need to force yourself to eat (barring a restriction of some sort) to keep yourself healthy. Keep food and liquid and your vitamins are you will get sick. It's your health - eat, drink and you will be merry

Alicia, I noticed everyone like the Atkins shakes and bars. I loved them to, but I found I like Pure Protein bars. Most have 19g -20g of protein, 0 trans fat and 2 to 3 grams of sugar. They have flavors like S'mores, Choc. Chip. and Peanut Butter. I try to make sure the calories are no more than 200 when I am looking at Protein Bars. You can get these at Target or Walmart.
