Immediately after my surgery, I started taking Bariatric Advantage chewable multi-vitamin, zinc (caplet), and Calcium. Over time, my iron levels went down and my B-12 went down. I'd suggest starting at a minimum the multi-vitamin, zinc and calcium (be sure and take the zinc and calcium a few hours apart...taken together, they negate each other). Personally...and I know people have differing opinions on this...I'd tell you if you can afford it, get a vitamin that is specifically made for WLS patients. As indicated, I use Bariatric Advantage, but I know there are other brands out there. Check out bariatriceating.com and vitalady.com, just as a beginning point. The flintstones chewables are made for people (children) with normal digestive systems, not for someone with a malabsorption issue to deal with. I'm not a dr and that's just my uneducated two cents... Good luck.

I am 10 days post op with the lap band, and everyday I take 2 cvs brand chewables, 1000mg calcium citrate-D, 500 mg folic acid, and 500 mg b-12. I would probably just wait till the Dr came back from on vacation till I switched to the prenatal vitamins just to be on the safe side. Good luck to you!!!

Best "liquid" vitamin / mineral supplement on market is VEMMA. It has 1000 IU vit. D3, very important. Take B-12 under tongue and Calcium citrate. Good B-12 at "Trader Joe's. Load up on protein. Don't waste your money on Flintstones, they don't have anything in them. Go to www.TrySomeVemma.com Good luck !

I asked my surgeon about Flinstone's chewable vitamins before my surgery at a seminar. He said "adults should not take them because 1 doesn't have enough for an adult, 2 would have too much of some vitamins and not enough of others.". They are NOT formulated for adult usage. Kids need more of certain vitamins as they grow and less of others until they are grown. So, from that, I would not recommend taking children's vitamins because you would not get what you need from them. Go with what other answers from other members said. Chewable adult or liquid vitamins and the B complex and calcium supplements. I had the lap lap-band and i take Centrum chewables and a liquid B complex and I am going to start on the other supplements. I also may change to a liquid vitamin cos I dont feel the dry is benefitting me all that much. My sister had the lap RNY and she had to take a ton of vitamins such as liquid B-12, an enormous dose of A, a huge calcium pill and were talking huge, and i forget what else but that is what one has to do after the surgery.

I am almost 12 years post-op and I have been taken Prenatal Vitamins with minerals I purchase at Target or Costco. I started the Vitamins 2nd day after the surgery. It was hard to swallow the pill at 1st and I had to break it down in pieces. But now I am ok with it and have no problems. My blood work is acceptable as I have a Vitamin D deficiency and now I take Vit D 10,000 IU a day. The vitamins are an essential supplement to our diet.

I recommend a great B complex that is sublingual [under the tounge] that tastes great and really has helped me alot. It's called Sublingual B Total made by Nutraceatucal Solutions, also SCHIFF makes an awesome kids chewable that has no added sugar and is organic.
