Question:
What happens during your consultation...BTC post-ops?

I have an appointment with Dr. Leverton on 9/27 and I was just curious about what takes place    — mischief85 (posted on August 19, 2002)

I really enjoyed my BTC consult. First I filled out all the usual information forms. Then the nurse weighed me, got my height, and took my BP. Then I talked to the intake worker who reviewed my whole medical history. After that the surgeon talked to a group of us about the actual procedure. The I talked to her individually about my surgery. After this I talked to a former pt who now works there who told me exactly what to expect. The next time I see my surgeon will be when I have the surgery. She recommended an EKG to be done now just because my pulse was slow, but other than that, all my other labs will be done about a week ahead at the BTC hospital when I have my pre-op visit with anesthesia. I was there about 3 hours, but it was a very nice day. No pressure, no being rushed, very friendly. Hope this helps.

My consult was at BTC in Wylie, TX where yours is going to be. I've heard nothing but great things about Dr. Leverton. My doc is Dr. Capps. At the front desk they gave me some paper work to fill out (make sure you have your medical records and any previous lab work or surgery you had done!!!!). The chairs were really big and comfortable. Once I filled out the paper work I waited, and waited but I was too excited to care! Finally, I was brought to 'behind the scenes' and was weighed, height taken, blood pressure taken, and pulse. I was then escorted back to a private room where the nurse sat down and took my diet history (make sure you have a list of that, also. You may forget something!!) and she also told me what my BMI was. She then took all my other medical history and told me the doc would be in any second...well, more like 15 minutes, but like I said, I was too excited to care. Dr. Capps came in, sat down and told me I was a good candidate for the surgery. He proceeded to tell me all aspects of the surgery, risks (with charts, even) and his background. He then asked if I had any questions....um, yeah...about 30 (make sure you have those to. Susan Barr's site has a great list!!) which he answered calmly and openly. I never felt like he was in a hurry. He then said that if I considered the surgery there would be some pre-op tests to do (you will probably have different pre-op tests as everyone is different) and then he said a patient counselor would be in shortly. She was, and she had the surgery in October, it was now May. I really felt uncomfortable about asking her personal questions (just because I'm a private person myself) but I was brave enough to ask one or two which she answered openly. She provided before pictures and I could tell she had lost A LOT of weight since October. She asked me a few questions and then made sure I didn't have any more questions before she took my picture. Then I was escorted back to the front desk, picked up my pre-op test sheet and was told as I got them done to have the results faxed up to them. And that's all there was to it!! Take care and I hope this helped! ; )
