Your surgeon will tell you if he wants you to lose wight prior to surgery...The average seems to be 20 lbs..Heavier weights seem to be asked to lose more than that to shrink the fatty liver...You will need that answer from your surgeon though!

I weighed 291 before I went on the week of liquids my surgeon required. I lost 11 lbs that week. Trippy huh?

I personally wasn't required to loose any weight prior to surgery. My doc office said that if the people could loose weight on their own then they wouldn't be there. He said its bs that they need your liver to shrink so they have room. Tiffaney Wolters

I was 257 pounds when I started the program, I lost 17 pounds but my surgeon never told me that I HAD to lose, I just was not allowed to put it back on and I do not have to go on a liquid diet before (well 2 days) surgery. I think it also depends on how big you are the heaver the more chance for complications.

I was 297 prior to surgery and wasn't asked to loose any weight. You surgeon will tell you if he/she wants you to loose weight before hand. My surgeon just told me if I lost weight while doing my workouts and liquid diet great if not it wasn't a big deal.

My surgeon has us lose 5-10 percent of our current weight...I lost 5 pecent (14 lbs) and had only one lb to go but he set my surgery date anyway...Nov. 17, 08...went perfect...

I weight 354 when I say my doctor. I had to loose 35 pounds. That was on 2-4-08, I had my surgery on 4-15-08. I was on a strict diet. I ate a low carb, low calorie diet, exercised 4 days a week. And I did it. When you have something to work for it was almost easy.

My surgeon wanted me to lose at least thirty or more pounds before the procedure. I wish you luck throughout your journey and it can be done. I went on a liquid diet consisting of whey protein and skim milk and plenty of water.
