Question:
Nausea

My surgery was November 12, I've been so nauseated I can't do anything. The Dr said it wasn't uncommon but I hadn't heard anyone else complain. Is this common?    — charlespat (posted on November 18, 2008)

I alos had problem with nausea after surgey mostly due to the narcotics. Are you still using them? There are anti-nausea pills. I would suggest asking your surgeon for an rx if the nausea is decreasing your fluid intake. Hope your feel better soon Paula

I too had nausea that lasted off and on for several months. With a script for compazine and slowly increasing my fluids I over came this problem. I still occasionally with have short bouts of nauses and have found it to be caused by gas after a meal. A Gas X pill and a very short walk take care of the problem. Hang in there...this will improve.

When I had my RNY I was sick for a year. I was nausteated for a very long time. But everyone is different. Your still a fresh postop. Give it a couple of weeks. Try to get a prescribtion for compazine or any anti nausea pill. Good luck !

Ask your doctor for some medicine you rub on your wrist that will stop you from being nauseated. I had some left over from my son being sick ... used it 2 -3 times ... worked great!

Everyone is different, but it's common. I had surgery almost 2 years ago (2/15/07) and I still have days that I am soooo sick to my stomach. Most days are good to go, but when I get it - I get it good. My PCP gave me a prescription for metoclopramide - within 10 minutes I am good to go. It's been a lifesaver.

LOL_ who wants to complain about wanting to yarf? Seriously though- I had a lot of queasyness for about the first month; sometimes it's the pain pills, sometimes it's your body re-organizing all your hormones (they are stored in fat). If your really bad off, you might try something like "Preggy Pops" from motherhood- I think they have ginger in them and that really helps me.

If you have been loosing a fair amount of weight during this period of queasiness, then it is probably the result of the ketosis. Your body is burning its own fat stores and the resulting by-product are ketones-- foul-tasting and nauseating, but a good sign of progress. Try drinking as much fluid as you can manage. Also experiment with hot liquids (which helped me throught this period) or cool ones (particularly Crystal Lite which is said to be helpful to many).
