In my personal experience 1000 calories a day is borderline starvation mode and is not going to help you more than it just makes you frustrated. When were your last labs? Have you had your thyroid checked? Dieting takes a toll on your body after a while...and all those yo-yo diets we did/do...are just not good for our own good. When I gained 10 lbs back a few years ago, I was malnourished and anemic and had NO idea! I did cut back calories but I was eating a good 1300-1400 calories on a DIET! (I could not exercise because of anemia and magnesium def that causes a lack of oxygen in the blood and can tax your heart and brain when competing for oxygen) So I HAD to cut back eating...Once my labs got back to normal (4-6 months), I was able to get my heart rate going again...I was also able to eat more and lose all of my 10 lbs og gain...Then after all that mess 6 mos later, I began losing my hair again...skin got ashy looking, felt tired...gained 3 lbs...I thought my anemia was back and went back in for labs again only it was my thyroid disease which had been dormant for 5 years...So I went back on thyroid meds and in a month my weight stabilized...and once again I had to cut calories and get my exercise back up now that I had energy again...So it might not actually be what YOU are doing but what might be going on in your body...If it's not properly nourished it can work against you when it comes to weight gains...so you might try getting vitamin labs and your thyroid checked as well! If that comes back normal...(after giving some 20 tubes of blood for all the tests) Then you might want to start a food journal and see what the heck you are REALLY eating...Journaling might shock you in how many calories are actaully in the foods you eat...especially those you eat out or do not prepare yourself! Try the Daily Plate for a free online journal...Until you write down EVERYTHING you are eating, you really won't know if you are eating too much or believe it or not, not enough!

I think doing the labs is very important. If low carb is not working you may have some other problem you can not see going on.

Sorry to hear that you are gaining weight. 1000 calories a day will make your starvation mode kick in with a vengeance. You did not say exactly what types of food you are eating, nor about the daily vitamins, and daily 64 oz of water intake. Talk to your nutritionist and weight trainer for not only cardio boosters but weight training to burn extra fat and preserve lean muscle. Best wishes.

thanks to all for the advise and moral support, had labs in oct 08 everything is good, drink 64 oz per day, if I eat over 1000 cal. per day I gain, I know that sounds off track but true, I know everything to do and do it, I think, my diet is 800-1000 per day, 60-100 protein, carbs 20-30, I walk 30-60 min per day. going to ask my doctor next visit july, about tsh levels. I did call my nutritionalist, and she said I was doing what I was suppose to, but couldn't say why I wasn't losing, my feeling is she thinks I'm fudging on my caloric amount, but I write down every bite I EAT sooooooo I guess I can be glad I'm not gaining but after all this surgery etc I can't stand the 20# gain
