Not ture. Many people have children after wls with no complications. You should talk to your surgeon about this.

I have heard that it is a good thing to wait at least two to three years, or until you reach goal weight and are stablized - but I've never heard that you CAN'T have children. This might be a question to talk not only with your surgeon about, but also with your gynecologist.

So not true! I'm having surgery in hopes of restoring my fertility. My surgeon said to wait 12-18 months after surgery to begin trying again.

No true. I had WLS 11/29/04 and after 8 years of infertility I delivered a healthy baby boy on 5/6/08. Good Luck!

Congratulations Tammy!! That's amazing :) Also very inspiring as I have PCOS and one of the big factors in WLS was the ability to reverse it so I can one day have children. :) As for the question poster: I would definitely ask your surgeon at a consult because that sounds very wrong to me, perhaps you misunderstood when they said you should just at least a year or two after surgery before trying to get pregnant. One thing that played into my decision of Lapband over Gastric Bypass was that I want to one day have children, and I liked the idea that the band can literally be deflated while pregnant to make it easier to eat to nourish the fetus. Plus I'm only 25 and the vitamin deficiency for the rest of my life was scary enough to me at this age that I didn't opt for Gastric Bypass. Good luck with whichever you choose though!

This is totally NOT true! You CAN have babies after WLS. Women have had children after bypass although it can be a bit tricky. The band is what is recommended to women in their child-bearing years. I'm living proof that you CAN have children. I have the band AND I am currently pregnant. I had SOME fluid removed, I have the option of getting tightened in my 2nd trimester if I gain too much weight and totally drained in the 3rd trimester to relieve pressure from my uterus and baby smashing all my guts. Good luck!
