Yes, I had breast cancer (2000) with a mastectomy. I had open RNY last year in March and I have had no problems. I have lost 140 lbs. Contact me if you have any specific questions, Ana Villa, RN

Well I can answer half your question accurately. I was diagnosed with breast cancer 3 years ago. One year ago I had the Vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy. A big part of why I did it was because one of the first things my oncologist said to me was I needed to try to get some of the fat out of my body in order to help prevent a recurrance. Cancer cells LOVE fat. So here I am one year later 126 lbs less and feeling wonderful. No problems at all. PM me if you have any other questions or concerns PLEASE!

My breast cancer was found during testing related to my gastric bypass surgery. I had a partial mastectomy 10 months ago, about 3 weeks after my gastric bypass surgery, then radiation. I had no problems during or after cancer treatment related to my bypass surgery. I have a very good prognosis regarding the cancer and I've lost 92 pounds. I've found it helpful to have the weight loss program to focus on. I feel like I'm investing in my health to the best of my ability. I'm off a couple of blood pressure medications that I had been on for 27 years; my BP is now 100/72. I'm eating high quality nourishing foods and trading in medications for supplements. The exercise for weight loss is also supposed to be helpful in fighting the cancer and the effects of the cancer treatment. My very best wishes to you and your friend. MW
