Question:
Anyone heard about changes to Pacificare in 2004?

I currently have Pacificare on a COBRA basis. I have gotten a new job that is starting in Nov and my new benefits will kick in 90 days after that. I have read in the message board and my support group message board that insurance companies will be making big changes in the new year. Has anyone heard about any changes to Pacificare and can anyone give me any info on United Health Care. UHC will be my new provider in Feb and I'm hoping that they aren't a pain to deal with as far as WLS. Sorry to ramble. Thanks Nancy    — NancySTX (posted on October 12, 2003)

Hey Nancy, I have UHC and there is an exclusion in the contract that my employer chose that will not cover wls. Make sure you read all the fine print in your contract. I have been denied and basically they tell me I am sol. I have been trying to find another insurance but they do not want to cover obese people with co morbities . So just a heads up.

I have Pacificare in CA and I was concerned about changes to coverage since I have heard that some of the other ins co here have been starting to "deny" approval at the last minute. I spoke with my case nurse who assured me that Pacificare will not be changing their approval guidelines after the new year. I am scheduled in Jan for RNY and wanted to be sure they wouldnt deny me at the last minute. Sounds like you will have new insurance tho so maybe Pacificare wont be an issue for you.
