Question:
Ladies; does your weight go up significantly prior to your period?

I have lost regularly but am always suprised when I go up 5 pounds at the beginning of my period. Of course prior to WLS I never weighed myself but I am still kind of shcoked when I see this fluctuation.    — Kristi S. (posted on June 16, 2007)

Hi Kristi, thanks for writing. A womans body is a very sensitive thing. Many women gain just before their period, and you probably did prior to surgery and this would not change after surgery. You can deal with it like you are, weighing and mentally dealing with it, or you can just fight through it and not weigh until it is over. Which every works for you to be the strongest, go for it. I don't have periods any more, so it is not an issue for me, but when I did have them, I always gained several pounds, and it was always discouraging. Something that helped me mentally though I found was that I purchased a pair of bra inserts that made my breasts a little larger, and when my period would come, I would use them. It sounds stupid, but the mental impact of having larger breasts than stomach always helped me get through my period. The brain is a strong thing, sometimes you have to work around it. Take care, and don't worry, it is only a week. Keep doing right and you may have a little surprise weight loss at the end of the week. Take care. Patricia P.

My first period after surgery saw me gain 7lbs! I was mortified, thought for sure I was failing, but within 3 days after starting my period it was gone and then some. Have no fear it happens. I think you hit the nail on the head my saying you didn't know before because your never weighed yourself. The scale is no fun when you are on the bigger side!

Every month like clockwork about 3-4 days before I start my period. With my water retention I gain anywhere from 7-10 pounds, but it falls right back off by then end of my period.
