PLEASE HELP! I CAN'T DECIDE WHICH SURGERY TO HAVE...THE RNY OR THE DS.

I had the RNY and would never change it in a million years. I'm 2months 3 weeks and a bit post op and have lost 62 lbs. Everyone is different as far as how much weight in a specific time you will lose, but to be honest, I can't comment on DS because I don't know anything about it. But I can comment on RNY and I LOVE MY RNY!!!

If I could have a do-over, I would have had the DS. Unfortunately, my surgeon only did RNY 5 years ago, did not tell me of any other surgery choices, and I was too stupid and naive to do my research. Select very carefully.

I had RNY and am completely happy with that decision. I had my RNY three years ago, lost 136 ponds and had no problems whatsoever.

Please read the info on this site. It explains the difference very well. The biggest difference seems to be the recommendation of RNY for patients who adore eating sweets. http://www.duodenalswitch.com/procedure/ds_vs__rny/ds_vs__rny.html Best of luck in your journey.

The best thing you can do is research the two and make up your own mind.. The one thing you need to research is your insurance..many will not pay for the DS.. mine only paid for Lap Band and Rny.. of course i choose the RNY , I ahve too much to loose and I would not conform with the lap band..I would however have shosen the DS if it was available with my insurance.. I had lost 67 lbs before surgery and now with the RNY the weight loss is very slow.. I have lost 17lb in two months.. that is too slow for me.. I really think you neex to find out what the insurance covers because I would hate to think of you making a choice and then finding out you cant have the surgery you chose to have.. research research research.. not only on here but get books and online too... make your mind up as an informed decision..

Have you considered VSG? Just thought I'd toss that into the mix. :)

If your interested on information that compares the different type of surgeries take a look at this website: http://www.lapsf.com/weight-loss-surgeries.html, its main page offers great information as well (http://www.lapsf.com) please use with caution and for information purposes only. Your best bet is to speak to your individual surgeon again. Best to you!
