Question:
CAN ANYONE TELL ME ABOUT KAISER INSURANCE?

I DONT HAVE ANY INSURANCE NOW BUT I WOULD LIKE TO GET INSURANCE AND THEN I WOULD LIKE TO HAVE THIS SURGERY. DOES ANYONE KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT KAISER OR ANY OTHER COMPANY YOU MIGHT SUGGEST THAT WOULD ALLOW ME TO HAVE THIS SURGERY OR DO THEY ALL HAVE THIS WEIGHT LOSS EXCLUSION?    — DBXX (posted on November 24, 2002)

I know Kaiser (Northern CA) won't even consider you if your BMI is less than 40. I noticed on your profile that your BMI is 32? I think you're going to have a bit of a problem getting ANY insurance to cover WLS with such a low BMI.

I agree with the previous poster. The NIH guidelines for weight-loss surgery are a BMI of 35 or greater with one or more co-morbidities and a BMI of 40 or greater with no comorbidities...JR

Not onely does Kiaser have a high BMI requirement (in San diego it is a 50) - but inso Ca they are changeing the WLS rules- so the wait will be a minimum year. Probably best to look into Blue cross or another- there is alot of information on this site about insurances- Good Luck

If you are a federal employee it is covered.

I live in Oregon and work for the County with Kaiser insurance. I was actually approved for the surgery, but you have to have a lot working against you. I know your BMI must be high, you have to attend classes, see therapist, etc. They really prepare you before you have the surgery.
